Bed Stuy Pride

2014 Bed-Stuy Pride

September 01, 2014

One+Love is honored to be an endorser of the 4th Annual Bed-Stuy Pride! Hosted by the Safe OUTside the System Collective of the Audre Lorde Project, the event will be held 12pm-6pm on Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Herbert Von King Park. The intention behind the gathering is to “honor the history and resilience of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans, and Gender Non-Conforming (LGBTSTGNC) people of color communities in Central Brooklyn.”

More from the Safe OUTside the System Collective:

We call on all LGBTSTGNC people of color and allies in Central Brooklyn to join us in visioning a safe Bed-Stuy rooted in community accountability.

What makes us different: We are a grassroots and local organizing project, not a corporate parade in Manhattan. We celebrate our communities and uplift local vendors, community practitioners, and cultural workers. We challenge dominant narratives of gentrification and LGBT progress which depict our neighborhoods as “homophobic” and erase the long legacy and contributions of our communities.

Inclusivity: We strive to make our event as accessible to all of the people in our communities and do not tolerate any forms of discrimination or oppression.

Safety: We believe in bringing people together to build community, rather than relying on police and the law enforcement to protect our communities.
